AUGUST, Mich. - After placing 10th at the GLIAC Tournament in 2018 and ninth in 2019, the Davenport men's golf team improved its finish once again with a sixth-place showing on Saturday at Stoatin Brae Golf Course. Davenport was led by redshirt senior,
Ryan Kauppila, who finished in fifth (-5) for the highest finish ever by a Panther at the GLIAC Championships, 12 spots better than the previous best.
Kauppila had never shot lower than a 72 in 22 career rounds prior to this tournament, but did so on both days with a pair of sub-70 rounds (69-68). The Germany native also lowered his personal-best 36-hole score of 145 by eight strokes to 137. For his career, Kauppila has now finished in the top 5 twice and the top 10 three times.
Also earning a top-20 finish for the Panthers was
Noah Bridgeman in a tie for 17th with a 145 (74-71, +3), who lowered his 18-hole best by two strokes in the second round and 36-hole best by six strokes. Bridgeman has now appeared in the top 20 for three of his six career tournaments.
Rounding out the action for Davenport was
Brandon Bodis in 30th with a 148 (73-75, +6),
Tyler Kapcia in 38th with a 154 (80-74, +12) and
Ryan TenBrink in a tie for 41st with a 156 (79-77, +14).
