Eight Panthers Named All-GLIAC; Glynn and Miller Take Home Major Awards

GLIAC Release

GLIAC - On the eve of Davenport's first-ever appearance in the GLIAC Tournament finals, eight Panthers were named to All-GLIAC Teams on Saturday as announced by the league. Of theĀ  major award winners, Aaliyah Miller was named Attacker of the Year and Anna Glynn received Freshman of the Year honors. Also featured for Davenport were Ryann Deuel (First Team), Amber Park (First Team), Maddy Haynes (Second Team), Jordyn Harrison (Second Team), Brenna Knoll (Second Team), and Grace DeRidder (Honorable Mention).

"These awards are a tremendous recognition for the girls on this team," said head coach Rob Harris. "Their hard work has definitely paid off, but without the team as a whole working day in and out all year, these awards don't happen. I know that if you congratulated each of these girls individually, they would quickly mention the team and that makes me happy to be their coach."

A two-time GLIAC Offensive Player of the Week in 2021 (March 16 and April 26) and Honorable Mention All-GLIAC player in 2019, Miller led the GLIAC in assists (29) while also finishing second in points (73), tied for second in free-position goals (11), third in goals (44), third in total shots (79), and third in shots on goal (66). Her freshman, teammate, Glynn, scored more points than anyone else in the conference with 74 to go with 52 goals (first), 16 free-position goals (first), 88 shots (first), 69 shots on goal (first), and 22 assists (third). The freshman was named GLIAC Offensive Player of the Week on April 12 and became the program's first-ever IWLCA National Offensive Player of the Week on April 13.

After a pair of Second-Team All-GLIAC nods in 2018 and 2019, Deuel, the school's all-time leader in draw controls with 439, had 86 more of them in 2021, more than anyone else in the league. Among the league's leaders, No. 9 was also second in goals (45), second in total shots (85), fourth in points (52), and was part of Davenport's three-headed offensive monster alongside Miller and Glynn. She was joined on the first team by Park, who caused more turnovers than any other league player with 21 and improved her Second-Team All-GLIAC honor in 2019 to a first-team honor this season. The Katy, Texas native was also second in the GLIAC in groundballs with 31 and was named GLIAC Defensive Player of the Week on April 12.

Moving on to the Panthers' second team honorees, it starts with Davenport rookie, Haynes. Haynes, who was named GLIAC Defensive Player of the Week on April 19, caused the second-most turnovers in the league with 18 and racked up the 10th-most groundballs with 23. That week she took home conference honors, Haynes notched six groundballs and six caused turnovers for the week as Davenport outscored Concordia-St. Paul by a total of 31-16, including 20-5 in the second half alone. As for Harrison, she finished third in the conference in caused turnovers with 16 and had five outings with multiple caused turnovers.

Knoll, one of the program's all-time greats on both ends of the field, shined bright once again in 2021. Among the league's leaders for this season, the Castle Creek, Colorado native finished fourth in total shots (74), fourth in draw controls (71), sixth in assists (12), sixth in caused turnovers (14), seventh in points (46), eighth in goals (34), and eighth in shots on goal (53).

Last, but certainly not least, is Davenport's first-year goalkeeper, DeRidder. The Freeport, Michigan native appeared in all 13 of the team's games with 11 starts and played all 60 minutes in five of those outings. DeRidder allowed just one goal in the first regular season game against Northern Michigan and two against both Lawrence Tech and game two at Ashland. She racked up seven saves twice including at Walsh and the second game at Concordia-St. Paul.
