CALEDONIA, Mich. - The Davenport University track and field programs are excited to showcase their facility and their abilities over the next couple of days (May 5-7) as they host the 2021 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Outdoor Championships. The three-day event will take place at the Farmers Insurance Athletic Complex in Caledonia, Mich. and feature 10 other conference schools all vying for the championship. The festivities begin on Wednesday with men's decathlon and women's heptathlon starting at 1:30 PM. The slate of events continues Thursday with a full day including Day 2 of the decathlon and heptathlon in addition to other field events and running events. On Friday, the championships wrap up with field events beginning at 11 AM and running events at 11:15 AM.
The Panthers have a handful of student-athletes who will compete to earn a spot on the podium as a top-three finisher.
Ethan Flores has the sixth-best time among GLIAC competitors this spring in the 110-meter hurdles (14.64). The 4x100 meter relay team on the men's side enters with the third-best time at 42.93 seconds.
Colin Grady has a real shot at individual champion in the long jump as he has the second-best mark in the conference at 23' 3.25" which he accomplished at the Davenport Panther Classic on April 24.
Demetri Griffin comes in with the third-best showing in the triple jump at 42' 11.5" which happened at the Big Blue Millikin Invite on April 3.
Isaiah Schafer has already hit a provisional mark in the shot put (59' 9") and discus (173' 8") ranking third and fifth in those events respectively.
Claude Ockert has the fourth-best result in the conference so far this season with 200' 1" in the hammer throw.
Bryce Albrecht also enters second on the performance list in the decathlon with 5,675 points at the Gibson Invitational on April 15.
On the women's side,
Scout Nelson enters ninth on the performance list in the 800 meters with a time of 2:17.85.
Emma Schafer has the third-best result in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 14.65 which she accomplished at the GVSU Al Owens Classic in April 16. Schafer also sits fifth in the 400-meter hurdles after a time of 1:05.62 at the Big Blue Millkin Invite on April 3. Schafer also has a chance to make the podium in the javelin (123' 7") and heptathlon (4,824 points).
The 4x400 meter relay team comes in with the fourth-best time at 4:04.89 which they did at the Davenport Panther Classic on April 24.
Alexandra Eby looks to make the podium in the pole vault and has cleared 11' 10" at the GVSU Al Owens Classic on April 16.
Mackenzie Brigham looks to make waves in the triple jump after a distance of 34' 0.25" at the Big Blue Millkin Invite on April 3.
Lisa Wangler earlier this season on April 24 at the Davenport Panther Classic had a hammer throw of 170' 2" which is the fourth-best mark in the GLIAC.Â
