DU begins a four-game set at Quincy in big regional matchup

The Davenport baseball team is currently ranked 22nd in NCAA Division II this week and will embark on a very big weekend series at Quincy starting with today's 2 PM eastern first pitch against the Hawks. Davenport and Quincy have been tabbed as two of the top contenders in the region according to Wayne CavadiĀ of NCAA.com (full article). The Panthers are coming off two of their biggest wins since moving to NCAA Division II against then #3 Central Missouri in their last time out. Davenport picked up those wins with timely pitching and strong defense. DU posted a 3.46 earned run average in the three-game series and committed just four errors for a .965 fielding percentage.

Cal Djuraskovic and Ricky Clark were pitchers of note against the Mules. Djuraskovic tossed 2.2 innings in a closer role and got two saves without allowing a run and struck out four hitters. Clark had his best outing as a Panther with 7.1 innings in a win. He allowed just four hits and three runs while walking and striking out three. Gaetano Vallone led the team with a .429 batting average going 3-of-7 at the plate. Nolan Anspaugh drove in a team-best four runs and batted .357 with three runs scored.

Quincy was picked in the preseason GLVC coaches poll as the top team in the Green Division. They will be making their season debut in today's game. This will be the first meeting between the two schools on the diamond.
