GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – In their final home game of the regular season, the Women's Hockey team met with Aquinas College for the fourth and final time this season. The Saints were feeling good heading into Sunday, having won the previous three meetings, and were riding an eight-game win streak.
That streak extended to nine, even though the Panthers put in a much better effort on Sunday than they did on Friday. Aquinas took home the win, and completed the season sweep of the Panthers.
QUICK STATS
Final Score: Davenport 0 – Aquinas 2
Shots: DU 13 | AQ 35

A EARLY SET BACK
Aquinas jumped out in front early in the contest as Olivia Menard scored her third of the season to make it 1-0, before Amelia Bartels added her sixth of the season, and Aquinas was up by a pair before the halfway mark of the opening 20 minutes. Yet, the Panthers' defense clamped down in their own zone, and were even able to create a couple of scoring chances in the Saints' zone, but trailed by a pair heading into the intermission.
HANGING IN THERE
Neither team found the back of the net in the second period. However, that did not mean neither team created scoring chances.
Julia Gaynor had to make a couple of nice saves in the DU net, while Ally Kennedy stopped good chances from freshmen
Avery Anderson and
Ashley Cutcher, with
Courtney Mulligan having a near-miss as the period expired.
In the third period, the Saints started to take the play back to DU, and a little passed the halfway mark of the period, they had a 5-on-3 power play. Yet, DU was able to kill off both penalties. Despite killing off another two-player disadvantage, the Saints were able to come away with the 2-0 win.
WHO'S NEXT?
DU has two more games left on their regular season, both of which are on the road against Maryville University. The first-year program currently has a 1-10-1 record, and is ranked #8 in the country. Game one of the of the weekend set from the Maryville University Ice Arena in Chesterfield, Mo. is set for March 19 at 8:30 p.m. CST.
