DU Wins Completes Season Sweep Over Marian with 7-3 Win

Six different goal scorers for DU put them above the .500 mark.

FOND DU LAC. Wisc. – The D3 Hockey team looked to make it three-for-three against Marian University as they went into their season's final meeting on Saturday.
 
While the Sabres were able to finally to get on the scoreboard, the Panthers excellent start in the opening 20 minutes sent them on their way to the 7-3 win.

NOTABLE PERFORMANCES
 
The Panthers had six different players find the back of the net, with Kevin Crawley having another great outing, scoring a goal and three assists, giving him six points on the weekend. Carter Osborn picked up a goal and an assist, giving him four goals in the last three games. Dillon Bond scored twice, with Austen Strauss earning his first win of the season in net, stopping 25 shots in the contest.
 
COMING OUT OF THE GATE
 
DU came out strong, with Bond scoring a little over six minutes into the contest. Crawley and Brendan Schievink set up Dion for his third goal of the season just passed the halfway mark of the first period, with John Lizyness giving the Panthers a 3-0 lead after 20 minutes.
 
The Sabres finally found the back of the net for the first time this season, as Angelo Maxey scored in the opening minutes into the second period. Davenport answered back a few minutes later as Justin VanOverloop scored his first as a Panther to restore the three-goal lead.
 
Tucker Hudrick scored his first of the season, followed by a tally from Jason Vogler to make things interesting, with DU only holding a 4-3 lead heading into the third period.
 
SPRINTING TO THE SWEEP
 
The Panthers put the hammer down in the final 20 minutes, as Bond scored his second of the contest early in the third. Crawley and Osborn added goals to send DU on their way to their third win in a row.
 
WHO'S NEXT?
 
Davenport takes a week off before meeting with Michigan Collegiate Hockey Conference (MCHC) East Division foe University of Michigan. The Wolverines are currently 4-0-1 coming out of this weekend after a win over Central Michigan. They'll take on Hope College in a pair of games before meeting with DU in the opening weekend in March.
 
The Wolverines and Panthers have only met twice over their history, with DU winning both meetings back in the 2015-16 season.
 
Game one of the weekend set will take place at the Arctic Coliseum in Canton, puck drop is set for 7:30 p.m.
