FOND DU LAC. Wisc. – After a convincing win against Marian at home last Sunday, the D3 Hockey team traveled over to Wisconsin on Friday to meet with the Sabres for the first of two games.
While the offense was not as apparent on the scoreboard as their win last weekend, the Panthers were able to pull out the win after another solid performance in net.
QUICK STATS
Final Score: Davenport 3 – Marian 0
Shots: DU 40 | MU 19
Power Play: DU (0/2) | MU (0/4)
Records: DU (2-2) | MU (0-2)
NOTABLE PERFORMANCES
Sophomores
Aiden Dion and
Kevin Crawley led DU with each picking up a couple of assists.
Barrett Rosser stopped all 19 shots he faced, becoming the first D3 netminder since John Cruse in November 2011 to pick up back-to-back shutouts.
A SOLID TRIO
The line of Dion, Crawley and Osborn proved to be the difference this one. After Rosser and Marian's Sam Gasiencia went save for save in the first period,
George Hangas scored his first of the season with a little over five minutes remaining in the second period.
In the final two minutes of the frame,
Hunter Tolsdorf found the back of the net for the second time this season to give DU a two-goal lead into the third period.
The final period saw the Panthers hunker down, only giving up two shots. Crawley and Dion set up Osborn for his second of the season, and DU improved to 2-2 with the 3-0 victory.
WHO'S NEXT?
The two teams will meet for the final time this season on Saturday, as the Panthers will wrap up their three-game series at the Blue Line Family Ice Center at 4 p.m.
