Since 2008, the men's bowling team at Davenport University has seen its fair share of talent take to the lanes. One of the most consistent bowlers over the past couple of seasons has been
Grant Oehler.
Â
Grant had quite the pedigree coming out of high school in Carmel, Indiana. He was named the 2016 Indiana Bowler of the Year, while placing sixth at that year's state competition. Oehler's highlights included bowling three 300 games, while bowling one 800 series. His passion for bowling drove him to continue into college, which is what brought him to Davenport.
Â
"I had a pretty recruitment schedule," Oehler confirmed. "Meeting with seven or eight schools, and [DU] was the best mix of athletics and academics."
Â
Also, the treatment of the program at DU was another huge aspect of Oehler's decision, a decision he certainly does not regret.
Â
"One of the many reasons DU shined through [during recruitment] was that from the time step onto the bus and when we step off, everything is paid for. I visited other schools, and they had to all drive themselves to tournaments. After my freshman year, to think of having to drive back, after seven or eight hours of competing, that would certainly would not have been worthwhile."
Â
Over his three seasons at DU, Grant's game average was little over 190, while knocking down 25,201 pins in the process. His favorite part of being at DU for the past three seasons has been going down to the Brunswick Southern College Classic down in Georgia in November, citing the long road trip with his teammates, and the competition of being in Tier 1 tournament.
Â
"I've had an awesome three years, and am grateful for the opportunity, and leaving a very happy student."
Â
Grant is graduating with Bachelor's in Marketing this year, and will being working as a Business Development Manager with TeknaByte, an IT company based out of Indianapolis.
Â
"I'm essentially a ground floor salesman for them, which is pretty cool. Not many people get that opportunity to help start up a company. I loved my internship with them [in 2019], and I can't wait to get started."
