FAIRVIEW HEIGHTS, Ill. - The Davenport bowling teams took part in the McKendree Baker Challenge over the weekend. The men's team placed ninth out of 23 teams with 7,483 pins while the women's team was 15th.
The men's team stayed near the cut line of the top eight all weekend, but could not get into the bracket format for the chance to win it. The tournament drew a lot of the top teams in the nation like Webber International, Wichita State, McKendree and Wright State. Savannah College of Art and Design was the top qualifier with 8,197 pins.
The men's team has shown a great deal of improvement towards being a top 25 team after starting the season ranked 70th. Freshman
Brandon Hyska was on fire all weekend with a strike percentage well over 60 percent. The team consisted of four freshmen, so the future is very bright. The team will have a month to prepare for sectionals and attempt to make some noise.
