The Davenport bowling season keeps rolling into the Leatherneck Classic over the weekend. The Panthers are trying to make strides early on this season and this was another opportunity to see hard work pay off.
The men's team yielded a 20th-place finish with a total of 8,505. McKendree University captured the crown with a total of 9,861 followed in the top three by St. Ambrose (9,532) and Wichita State (9,435).
Grant Oehler placed 53rd out of 456 bowlers with an average of 196 in six games. Oehler rolled three games over 200 with a best of 233 in the first game.
Brandon Hyska placed 73rd overall with an average of 188 and had a high of 242 in the second game.
Logan Smith averaged 184 in six games and rolled a high of 200.
The women's team finished 32nd out of 34 other schools with a total of 6,401. The top three in the field was Midland (8,939), Wichita State (8,922) and Saint Xavier (8,898).
The top finishers for Davenport included
Merisa Batkins who averaged 161.2 in six games with a best of 187 in the final game.
Mikaela VanDuinen totaled 787 in six games for an average of 131.2.
Marisa Bacon averaged 135.6 over five games with included a high of 154 in the fourth game.
