DETROIT, Mich. - The 2018 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Baseball Tournament will get underway on Thursday, May 10 in Detroit at The Corner Ballpark. The site served as the hallowed ground of Tiger Stadium at the corner of Michigan and Trumbull for decades before the Detroit Tigers moved to Comerica Park in 2000. The new ballpark has artificial turf and is named the Willie Horton Field of Dreams, after the native Detroiter and former Tiger legend. The Detroit Police Athletic League (PAL) developed the $20-million dollar youth sports facility and group headquarters. The ballpark is expected to seat 2,500 and include a banquet center and office space for Detroit PAL.
The tournament will begin at 11 a.m. with No. 1 seed Northwood facing No. 6 seed Tiffin. Davenport, the No. 2 seed, will tangle with No. 5 seed Grand Valley beginning at 2:30 p.m. The final game of the day will be No. 3 seed Ashland versus No. 4 seed Wayne State at 6 p.m. The spectator parking will be free and you can access several lots near the ballpark.
