HOW IT HAPPENED
-Calvin struck first in the rematch on Saturday at 19:20 of the first period as Oakes notched an unassisted goal. Calvin was called for two minor penalties in the opening 20 minutes and DU could not score on the power play.
-Bihn scored the only goal of the second period at 16:27 from Bonser and Morse. Each team had two minor penalties in the period but neither could score with the man advantage.
-The third period saw a breakout in scoring as both teams scored twice to force overtime. Davenport built a 3-1 lead with goals by Bond at 3:02 and Bonser at 17:14. The Knights came back with a vengeance in the final minute to tie the game. Oakes cut the lead by one at 19:19 and then there were matching penalties at 19:44 to Bihn and Nowak. The 4-on-4 skaters scenario allows for more open ice and when Calvin pulled their goaltender it allowed for an extra skater. Calvin tied it up just seven seconds after the penalties and with nine seconds left on the clock. Szenderski got the tying goal from Jakob Panzer.
-The Panthers did not hang their heads after the comeback and got the overtime goal off the stick of Bond at 1:42 from Brendan Scheivink and Morse.
-
Jordan Tafel notched the win in goal for DU stopping 15 shots. Jacob Gregor made 20 saves for Calvin in the loss.
