Panthers lose two games on the road to Robert Morris University

BENSENVILLE, Ill. – Davenport traveled to Illinois to take on Robert Morris University in a mini-series. The Eagles and Panthers are ranked 14th and 15th in the latest ACHA national rankings respectively. The two nationally ranked teams battled it out during the two games, with the second game putting fans on the edge of their seats during the third period.
 
Game 1 (Friday, December 15)
Final Score: Davenport 0, Robert Morris University 3
Location: Bensenville, Ill.
Records: Davenport 4-12, Robert Morris 8-10

HOW IT HAPPENED
-Robert Morris scored the only goal of the first period and held a 1-0 lead after 20 minutes of play. They scored in the 11th minute on an unassisted effort.
-The Eagles added two more goals in the second period to increase their lead to three goals.
-Davenport successfully killed the three power play opportunities that the Eagles had during the game.
-Dawn Salo played all 60 minutes in net and recorded 25 saves.
 
Game 2 (Saturday, December 16)
Final Score: Davenport 2, Robert Morris University 3

Records: Davenport 4-13, Robert Morris 9-10

HOW IT HAPPENED
-The Eagles snuck in a late goal in the first period to take a 1-0 lead heading into the second period. The goal was scored with only nine seconds left in the period.
-Davenport opened the second period with a goal of their own to tie the game at 1-1. Courtney Mulligan scored the goal, an even strength goal, just 67 seconds into the period, assisted by Amanda Ballestero. Robert Morris scored two goals within a 38 second stretch during the period to take a 3-1 lead. Jaiden Forrest cut the lead down to one with a goal in the 18th minute, assisted by Mulligan.
-The Panther tried their hardest to score the game-tying goal in the final period, but were unable to find the net.
-Both Mulligan and Forrest scored one goal.
-Ballestero and Mulligan each recorded one assist.
-Julia Gaynor spent the night in the net and stopped 41 of the 44 shots she faced.
 
UP NEXT
Davenport is back in action on January 14 at Adrian College. After that, the Panthers will play a mini-series against Michigan State University on January 19 and 20.
