TIFFIN, Ohio - The Davenport University women's lacrosse team got just the start it wanted on Sunday in the 2021 season opener as it scored five of the game's first six goals. Tiffin responded by going on a 5-2 run of its own to cut the margin to one, 7-6, but the Panthers never let the Dragons tie it up and held on for the 11-8 victory. Next up, Davenport will be at Findlay on Friday with the first draw set for 4 p.m.
Ryann Deuel and
Anna Glynn were each responsible for three goals while
Reilly Noble assisted on three scores,
Aaliyah Miller notched a pair of helpers and Glynn had an assist of her own. Also scoring for Davenport was Miller (2),
Brenna Knoll (2) and newcomer,
Maddy Haynes (1). Defensively, Glynn caused a pair of turnovers while Deuel, Haynes and
Amber Park caused one apiece. In goal, another newcomer,
Grace DeRidder, saved three shot attempts.
In the team head-to-head, Davenport went 14-for-17 on clear attempts and Tiffin was 13-for-23. The Panthers also led the Dragons in ground balls (18-10), draw controls (12-9) and free-position shots (8-5) while the Dragons' had four free-position goals to the Panthers' three.
