Muilenburg Leads Davenport to Split at Cedarville

CEDARVILLE, Ohio - Junior hurler, Ellie Muilenburg, pitched another gem in game one at Cedarville on Saturday and led Davenport to a 2-1 victory. However, the Yellow Jackets took the rematch, 8-0, in six innings to split the twinbill. Next up on the schedule, Davenport will be at Ohio Dominican on Sunday for a doubleheader with first pitch in game one set for 12 p.m.

Muilenburg (3-2) went the distance for the fourth time this season and 31st time in her career as she struck out a career-high 14 batters and walked just one. The Grandville native faced 25 batters, only four above the minimum, and surrendered one earned run on three hits in those seven innings of work.

Offensively, Rachel Griffin scored both of Davenport's runs thanks to a wild pitch in the first inning and a throwing error by the first baseman in the sixth. In the home half of the sixth, Cedarville got on the board with an RBI single to left field before the batter was thrown out trying to stretch it to a double.

In the second game, neither team scored until the fifth inning when Cedarville put a seven on the board followed by the eighth run in the sixth. The Yellow Jackets scored those eight runs on eight hits while the Panthers managed just four hits from four different players.

In the circle, Emma Miller (1-2) gave up six runs, five earned, on six hits in 4.1 innings before Taylor Simon pitched the final inning and a third with two earned runs allowed. Miller struck out two and walked two while Simon walked three and punched out one.
