ERIE, Pa. - The women's wrestling team got another crack at it on Saturday as Gannon University hosted the NCWWC Northeast Regional Qualifier. This was the second competition for the newest team at Davenport and four wrestlers made the trip.
Elizabeth Palmer competing at 123 pounds placed sixth and scored six points for the team which finished sixth out of seven schools with 14.5 points. Palmer was unable to win a match and was defeated by fall twice and had to forfeit her final match.
Kelsey Novogradac took the mat at 130 pounds and dropped a pair of matches against Mackenzie Tayerle of Adrian College (13-2) and Vivian Newcomer of Gannon (Fall 3:30).
Cole Schield placed sixth at 136 pounds and earned 8.5 points. She went 5:02 in her first match before being pinned by Paige Lenhardt of Tiffin. Schield won her next match on a tech fall 13-2 over Paige Cook of Gannon. Schield lost her final match by fall at 2:46 against Shawna Oesterling of Adrian.
Megan Bird made her debut at 136 pounds but could not win a match in two tries. She was beaten by fall at 47 seconds against Lindsey Beans-Polk of Gannon and then Lenhardt of Tiffin won by tech fall 12-2.
