No. 10 Men’s Soccer Hosts Indiana Tech in WHAC Tourney Opener

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – With the regular-season complete, the No. 10 Davenport men's soccer team's quest for a second straight Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference Tournament title begins Saturday when the Panthers welcome back Indiana Tech to the Turf Field for the quarterfinals at 7 p.m. The winner will take on either Madonna or Concordia in the semifinal Tuesday.

The Last Time vs. Indiana Tech
It was all Dzenan Catic the last time Davenport and Indiana Tech squared off on the pitch last month. The NAIA's leading scorer set a school record of scoring five goals in the span of 29 minutes to help the Panthers run by the Warriors 6-0. Tyler Fischer scored the goal the Panthers only needed in the 27th minute.
 
Indiana Tech Since The Last Meeting
The Warriors had barely made it to the WHAC Tournament after going 2-4-1 the rest of the regular-season following their matchup with Davenport. All seven opponents had outscored Indiana Tech 18-12. Adam Knight holds a slim lead in goals (6) with teammates Zachary St. Aubin (5) and Padraic Ormsby (4) right behind him.

The Panthers and Warriors have met 15 times prior to tonight's match. DU had won the first nine contests before 2-3-1 since.
 
Catic Named WHAC Off. Player of the Year
The WHAC coaches had released their postseason's awards Thursday and Davenport's junior Dzenan Catic was chosen as the Offensive Player of the Year after leading the nation in goals (30) and points (68). Joining him in the first-team All-WHAC list are Lito Esquivel, Chase Burgess and Kyle Haverkate. The coaches also awarded honorable mention to Tyler Fischer, Cam Cavanagh and Aaron Orban.
 
Davenport in the WHAC Tournament
The Panthers have a good record when playing in the WHAC Tournament, going 11-6. DU has also won the tournament twice (2010 and 2013).
