Men's Soccer takes on Parkside in GLIAC Semifinals

The match will be Friday, April 30 hosted by SVSU at 4 PM

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - The Davenport men's soccer team will head to University Center, Mich. on Friday to face Parkside at 4 p.m. in the semifinals of the GLIAC Tournament. The sixth-seeded Panthers will match up with the second-seeded Rangers for the second time this season, the last being on April 11 in a 3-1 win for Parkside at the DU Turf Field. This will be the sixth meeting all-time between the teams with Parkside leading the series 3-1-1. Friday's matchup will be the first in the GLIAC Tournament against each other.

Davenport moved on to the semifinals after a thrilling quarterfinal win at Northern Michigan last Sunday. The match ended in a 1-1 tie through double overtime and the teams were deciding things via penalty kicks. It was all Panthers as they won 4-1 in PK's to setup Friday's matchup. Daire O'Riordan scored in the ninth minute off a rebound on a free kick by Evan Marquess for the Panthers. During PK's it was O'Riordan, Evan Marquess, George Deveau and Yovany Duran in that order who scored for Davenport. Carter Selvius stopped two shots to come up huge during PK's for Davenport.

Parkside ran their win streak to six matches improving to 6-2 overall with a 4-1 quarterfinal win over Northwood in Kenosha, Wis. on Sunday. The Rangers have outscored their opponents, 17-3, during the win streak and are peaking at the right time. Parkside scored three times in the first half against the Timberwolves and never looked back. Max Ludwig scored his third goal of the season in the 17th minute. Rade Novakovich scored his fifth of the season in the 25th minute. Osvaldo Sanchez Arellano scored his second of the season in the 31st minute. During the second half, Edgar Heredia Victoria scored his fifth of the season in the 65th minute to build a 4-0 advantage. Northwood's goal came in the 84th minute by Charlie Evans. The final shots on goal was 14-4 in favor of Parkside.
