DETROIT, Mich. - The Davenport baseball team could not ask for much more than getting a doubleheader sweep of league-leading Wayne State on Saturday to open a pivotal four-game weekend series. The Panthers took game one 8-5 and the nightcap 5-3 to propel them to a 20-14 record overall and 13-9 GLIAC mark. Entering today, the Panthers were fighting to climb up the conference standings sitting in sixth place. The Warriors had not lost the first two games of a GLIAC series until today and are currently 20-10 overall and 12-6 in the conference. After today, the top six teams in the league have a shot at the title as Davenport will have six more games left in the regular season.
A pair of James were impressive on the mound for the Panthers.
James Rogers got the game one win and
James Kohl picked up the victory in Game 2.
Cal Djuraskovic earned a save in each game and now has eight on the season. That number is currently in the top five in Division II.
Rogers dealt 5.1 innings in game one which was a seven-inning affair. He improved to 6-2 on the hill and now leads the GLIAC in pitching wins. Rogers allowed six hits with three walks and four strikeouts. Djuraskovic entered the game in the bottom of the sixth with two runners on base and one out with DU leading 6-5. He got a ground out and fly out with the go-ahead run at second base.
The Panthers gave Djuraskovic two insurance runs in the top of the seventh as

Brian Sobieski) to have two 10-plus home run seasons as he also hit 11 bombs in 2019. He also hit his 22nd career home run which is second in Panther history.Â
Djuraskovic allowed a two-out walk in the bottom of the seventh but the Warriors could not push across any runs.

Kohl allowed two earned runs with two walks and three strikeouts. Djuraskovic started off the bottom of the ninth and elevated his heart rate by walking the leadoff hitter and a one-out single. The made the pitch he needed though to get a double play grounder to end the game.
