GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - The rout was on for Senior Day Sunday as the Davenport women's lacrosse team blew out Northern Michigan, 21-5, to complete the weekend sweep of the Wildcats at the DU Turf Field.
Jordyn Harrison,
Ryann Deuel and
Amber Park, the three seniors honored prior to the opening draw (pictured together below), each found the scoring column and Park (pictured above) was able to do so for the first time since her freshman season.
Davenport tied its most goals in a home game for the NCAA Division II era with 21, which was also done on April 20, 2019 against Lewis (21-8). With that, the Panthers improved to 10-1 overall and 6-1 in GLIAC play, which sets up for a massive showdown at home with No. 8 Grand Valley State (10-2, 7-0 GLIAC) on Tuesday at 6 p.m.
If Davenport wins that regular season finale by more than three goals, it will be the top seed and host a GLIAC Tournament semifinal matchup with fourth-seeded Concordia-St. Paul on Friday, May 7. If Davenport wins by two goals, there will be a coin toss to decide hosting duties. Lastly, if Davenport wins by just one goal or loses the game, it will be the two seed and face third-seeded Northern Michigan on May 7. The finals will then be played on Sunday, May 9.
Getting back to Sunday,
Aaliyah Miller turned in her most complete performance of the season with six goals, five assists, 11 points (career high), seven shots on goal in eight attempts, five ground balls, and three caused turnovers (tied career high). Also scoring for the Panthers were Deuel (5),
Anna Glynn (3),
Brenna Knoll (3 - surpassed 100 career goals),
Monique Vale, Harrison,
Avery Garant, and Park. Assist wise,
Reilly Noble tallied three while Glynn, Knoll and Vale each had two.
Defensively, Park and Deuel joined Miller as the lone Panthers with multiple caused turnovers and Knoll racked up nine draw controls, her most of the season. In goal,
Grace DeRidder (8-1) picked up the win with five saves before giving way to
Tylor Baker and her three stops in the second half.
Davenport fired a total of 45 shots (45-17 advantage), the most at home since March 31, 2018, also against Northern Michigan. Thirty-one of the Panthers' 45 shots on Sunday were on goal to just 13 by the Wildcats. Davenport also had 21 ground balls to Northern Michigan's 10 and went 12-15 on clear attempts as opposed to 6-16 by the Wildcats.
