HAMMOND, Ind. - The men's tennis team traveled to Purdue Northwest on Saturday for a GLIAC matchup with the Pride. The Pride claimed a 6-1 win over the Panthers improving to 8-5 overall and 5-2 in the conference. Davenport is now 7-9 overall and 2-5 in the conference having dropped five straight matches after a 2-0 league start.
Juan-Louis van Antwerpen and
Jonathan Bulmer improved to 5-1 as a tandem with a 7-6 (7-4) win at one doubles over Levent Evyapan and Miguel Cepeda. The Panthers lost the other two doubles matches and managed just two games.
van Antwerpen also picked up a singles win at the number one spot by scores of 6-2, 6-1 over Cepeda. He is now 9-6 in singles play this season and won his second straight. The Pride took care of the rest of the singles but two of them went to three sets.
Juan Jose Pino Contoleon at four singles fell 6-2, 4-6, 6-2 against Evyapan and
Bernard Anderson at six singles was outlasted 6-1, 5-7, 10-4 against Jonas Franssen.
