GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - The Davenport men's tennis team was in a dogfight on Sunday against Grand Valley State. The Lakers pulled it out by the narrow score of 4-3 against the Panthers. DU is now 7-8 overall and 2-4 in the GLIAC.
The doubles play was the closest it has been all season at one and two spots. Both went into a tiebreaker with the Panthers winning both and getting a team point.
Juan-Louis van Antwerpen and
Jonathan Bulmer won 7-6 (7-5) at one doubles and
Daniil Khitrou and
Juan Jose Pino Contoleon won 7-6 at two doubles.
The Lakers would win four of the six singles matches to earn the victory. Davenport got wins at one singles and two singles. van Antwerpen and Khitrou carried the torch for DU. van Antwerpen won 6-4, 6-3 over Martin Matov and Khitrou won 6-3, 7-6 at two singles over Tomas Oliveira.
Parker Keas battled hard in the first set at six singles falling 7-6 but could not keep it close in the second set falling 6-1 to Ryan Rhoades.
