ALLENDALE, Mich. - Carrying an unblemished overall record of 6-0, including a 2-0 mark in GLIAC play, the Davenport women's lacrosse team was at No. 8 Grand Valley State for a crosstown showdown on Saturday afternoon. The Panthers led the Lakers for the first time as Division II members (fifth meeting) and had the score tied at 13-13 with under seven and a half minutes to play before GVSU scored twice to escape with the 15-13 victory over DU.
Anna Glynn (pictured) turned in a brilliant performance with seven goals, three assists, all seven shots on goal, two ground balls, one caused turnover, and four draw controls. Those seven scores are a career high for Glynn and the three assists tie the freshman's personal best. Also scoring for Davenport was
Ryann Deuel (2),
Maddy Haynes,
Brenna Knoll,
Aaliyah Miller, and
Avery Garant.
Reilly Noble assisted on a pair of goals while Haynes and Miller each added an assist as well.
The Panthers' other team leaders included
Grace DeRidder (4 ground balls),
Amber Park (4 ground balls and 2 caused turnovers),
Christine Steffes (2 caused turnovers),
Jordyn Harrison (2 caused turnovers), and Deuel (7 draw controls).
Davenport led Grand Valley State by two, 7-5, at the break and didn't trail by more than one until the Lakers reeled off four goals in a row to go ahead by three, 11-8, with 21 minutes left in the game. The Panthers punched right back, though, with three-straight scores of their own to knot the score up at 11-11. Grand Valley State proceeded to go up 13-11 and Davenport tied it up for a final time at 13-13 before the Lakers finished it off.
Next up on the schedule, Davenport will be at Concordia-St. Paul on the weekend of April 16 for a pair of matchups with the Golden Bears.
