How It Happened
- Lake Superior State controlled the first set to the tune of a .600 hitting percentage with 13 kills and only one error on 20 total attacks.
- The Lakers carried that momentum into the beginning of the second set with five of its first seven points before the Panthers began to build some momentum.
- Davenport answered that 5-2 run with six-straight points and 11 of the next 13 points to go ahead by six, 13-7.
- From there until the end of the set, the home team could never get closer than two (14-12) and the visitors led by as many as seven (23-16, 24-17, 25-18).
- The third set saw Davenport perform its best on the offensive end with a .310 hitting percentage thanks to 15 kills and just two errors on 42 swings.
- The Lakers scored the first two points and held the lead for a bit until it was 7-5 before the Panthers used a 7-2 run of their own to lead by three, 12-9.
- After Lake Superior State scored back-to-back points to cut the deficit to one, 12-11, six straight Davenport points boosted the lead back to eight, 19-11.
- The Lakers were never closer than seven points the rest of that set.
- The fourth set was the tightest of the match as it only saw two ties, but Davenport led by more than three on just two occasions.
- The difference came when Davenport was ahead one, 19-18, and scored five of the next six points to lead by five, 24-19.
