Davenport Winning Streak Snapped at Grand Valley State

ALLENDALE, Mich. - Despite Davenport coming back from being down four points, 23-19, and winning the first set, 26-24, Grand Valley State won the match in four sets on Friday night to snap the Panthers' four-match winning streak. These two teams will go at again on Saturday at 1 p.m., but inside the DU Student Center.

How It Happened
- Davenport opened the match with three of the first four points before Grand Valley State scored the next six in a row to go ahead by four, 7-3.
- The Lakers held the lead for the majority of the set, but once they were up 23-19, the Panthers ended the set with a 7-1 run to win it, 26-24, and go ahead 1-0 in the match.
- The second set saw four ties and two lead changes in the first nine points, at which point the home team was ahead by one, 5-4.
- That point came in the midst of a 9-1 run by the Lakers that gave them a seven-point lead, 12-5.
- From there until the end of the set, the Panthers could never get closer than two, 13-11 and 14-12, while the Lakers led by as many as nine, 25-16.
- In the first 19 total points scored in the third set, Davenport held three different leads including 2-1, 3-2 and 10-9, the last of which came after a 6-2 run.
- Once the Panthers were up 10-9, the Lakers reeled off 13 of the next 16 points and were ahead by nine, 22-13.
- Davenport pulled within seven, 22-15, and then five, 24-19, before Grand Valley State scored its 25th point for the set and a 2-1 match advantage.
- The Panthers started the fourth set hot with five of its first six points before the Lakers used an 8-1 spurt and were up three, 9-6.
- Davenport was able to cut the deficit to two on six different occasions including 9-7, 10-8, 12-10, 13-11, 15-13, and 16-14.
- Once it was ahead 16-14, Grand Valley State scored four-straight points and made the score 20-14.
- The Panthers then pulled within three at 21-18, 22-19, 23-20, and 24-21, but the Lakers ended it with the next score.
