NASHVILLE, Tenn. - The Davenport baseball team got a split on Saturday at Trevecca Nazarene with a 4-2 loss in Game 1 and a 12-0 win in Game 2. The Panthers handed the Trojans their first loss of 2021 in the nightcap which ended in six innings due to rain.
In the first game, Trevecca Nazarene got a quality start from Drew Pierce who went 6.1 innings and allowed four hits with one walk and five strikeouts. Pierce improved to 2-0 this season with the win. Jay Benard closed out the final 1.2 innings and got the save for his second of the season.
Derrick Edington threw well for the Panthers but could not get any run support. Edington went four innings and allowed three hits with one walk and five strikeouts.
James Kohl also threw four innings and allowed just one hit and two earned runs.
Trevecca Nazarene scored twice in the first inning and fifth inning. Davenport scored once in the seventh and eighth innings.
Christian Petre had a sacrifice fly in the seventh and
Nolan Bryant had a RBI single in the eighth.
Travis Harvey went 3-for-4 with a run scored.
In game two, Davenport tossed the shutout for the first time this season. The Trojans collected just four hits off
James Rogers who went five innings for the win (2-1). Rogers walked four and fanned three.
Joseph Drury got the final three outs in order on flyouts.
Kamrin Markwardt had a RBI single to start an eight-run second inning for Davenport.
Carson Eby later hit a grand slam for a 5-0 lead. Harvey had a two-run double and later scored on a throwing error. Markwardt had another RBI in the fifth on a groundout.
Hunter Ruhstorfer had a RBI single to lead 10-0 after five innings.
Harvey had a RBI single in the sixth and
Ben Mets hit a sacrifice fly for the 12th run. Harvey went 3-for-4 with three RBI.
Noah Marcoux, Mets, Petre and Eby each had multi-hit games as DU pounded 16 hits including four doubles, one triple and one homer.Â
