Men's Tennis falls to Tiffin

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - The Davenport men's tennis team welcomed Tiffin University for a Tuesday matinee at MVP SportsPlex. The two teams were originally scheduled to match up on Friday in the season opener, but it was postponed due to inclement weather.

The Panthers dropped a 5-2 decision to the Dragons out of the G-MAC. The match started fantastic for Davenport as they swept all three doubles and earned one team point. Juan-Louis van Antwerpen and Juan Jose Pino Contoleon picked up a 6-4 win at one doubles. Frank Piana III and Daniil Khitrou also won their second doubles by a 6-4 score. Matt Leatherman and Jonathan Bulmer at three doubles had a convincing 6-1 win.

The Dragons flipped the script however in singles and took five of the six matches for the victory. The Panthers had a win at three singles as Khitrou defeated Matt Saunders by scores of 7-6, 6-3. DU put up a good fight in three of the singles as they went to three sets. In fact, DU took the first set in those matches only to drop the next two.
