GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - The Davenport men's tennis team improved to 2-1 overall and handed Walsh their first loss (2-1) with a 4-3 decision on Friday afternoon. The Panthers bounced back after a loss to Tiffin and showed some heart in picking up the non-conference win.Â
The doubles point belonged to the Panthers after victories at two and three doubles.
Frank Piana III and
Daniil Khitrou defeated Clemens Wagner and Filipp Kulynych 7-6 at two doubles and then
Matt Leatherman and
Jonathan Bulmer edged Dawson Drummond and Austin Arfaras at three doubles 6-4.
The teams split six singles matches at 3-3.
Juan-Louis van Antwerpen won his first set at one singles but Jakob Riglewski rallied to win the next two (4-6, 6-1, 7-5). Piana III defeated Wagner 6-3, 6-2 at two singles. Khitrou continued his winning ways at three singles with a 6-0, 6-0 triumph over Joao Campos. Leatherman picked up a win at six singles in straight sets (6-2, 6-3) over Pedro Campos.
