DU finishes 8th in NCAA Super Region 3

TIFFIN, Ohio - The Davenport men's wrestling team had a gauntlet of a regular season in the Great Lakes Valley Conference and those tough matches paid dividends as the Panthers improved their finish from last year's regional. DU finished one spot higher in eighth place but doubled their team points to 28 in the process.

NOTABLE PERFORMANCES
  • Manuel Leija wrestling at 125 placed fourth in his weight class. After a loss to start the day, Leija managed to advance to the third place match. He won by fall at 1:29 against Jake Arnold of Notre Dame (OH) and followed that with a 2-1 decision over Zachary Collins of Findlay. He advanced to the third place match on a medical forfeit. Tyshawn White of Glenville State won a 3-0 decision over Leija in the third place match.
  • Tyson Emmons picked up one win on the day at 141 in the consolation round with a 15-12 decision over Alec Fulwider of Glenville State.
  • Jordan Ringler at 149 also finished fourth for the Panthers. He won his first match 7-2 against Collin Adkins of Tiffin. After a loss in the semifinal, Ringler won 8-1 over Darese Sparkman of Notre Dame (OH). Logan Bailey of Indianapolis won the third place match 6-3.
  • Levi Six wrestled at 165 and made extremely quick work of Brayden Starkey of Ohio Valley in his first match with a pin in just 19 seconds. After a loss in the quarterfinal, Six won again by fall just in a little more grueling way at 6:46 over Justin Crawford of Notre Dame (OH).
  • Sam Greco at 174 picked up one win in the consolation round. He beat Joel Cruickshanks of Glenville State 11-2 by major decision.
  • Jackson Nevadomski at 184 won by disqualification in the consolation round over Iran Love of Tiffin. He then had to retire with a medical issue.
  • River Fox at 285 became the third Panther to finish fourth in their weight class. Fox started with a 7-3 win over Mike Viramontes of Notre Dame (OH). After a loss in the semifinals, Fox won 7-1 against Jay Thompson of Indianapolis. Viramontes won the rematch in the third place match narrowly 4-3.
