ALLENDALE, Mich. - The Davenport University women's volleyball team traveled to nearby Grand Valley State on Tuesday night for its first GLIAC road match of 2019. In their first five-set match of the young season, the Panthers took two of the first three sets before the Lakers bounced back with periods four and five to win it inside the GVSU Fieldhouse.

(15-25, 25-19, 25-23, 21-25, 7-15)
- Aside from two ties at 1-1 and 2-2, Grand Valley came out of the gates hot with 12 of the first 15 total points.
- The Lakers pushed their lead to as many as 13, 18-5, before a 10-3 Panther run cut the deficit to six, 21-15.
- However, the home team then rattled off four-straight points to put the set away.
- Unlike the first set, it was the visitors that asserted themselves to open the second set and they did so with 10 of the first 13 total points.
- At one point, Grand Valley came within two, 15-13, but Davenport shut the door with the following four points and held on for the 1-1 match tie.
- The third set, the closest of the match, featured 14 ties and eight lead changes.
- Trailing by four, 12-8, the Panthers scored seven of the next eight points to go up by two, 15-13.
- However, the away team couldn't pull away until it was trailing for the final time, 23-22, and notched the final three points.
- In the fourth stanza, Davenport trailed by as many as six, 12-6 and 13-7, before using a 10-3 spurt to regain the advantage, 17-16.
- Following the Panthers final lead at 18-17, the Lakers scored eight of the final 11 points to send the match to a fifth and deciding set.
- There were two ties in the fifth, 1-1 and 3-3, but Davenport never led and Grand Valley recorded its best hitting percentage of the night at .455.

Hayley Kreiger had a big night with 24 kills, which is four more than her previous career high and tied for the sixth-best mark in program history.
- Kreiger had seven errors on 58 total attacks for a hitting percentage of .293.
- The sophomore outside hitter accounted for 51 percent of the team's kills and 34 percent of its attacks.
- Davenport's other leaders included
Sami White (24 assists and 10 digs),
Grace Hayes (15 assists),
Kenzy Corstange (four service aces),
Kendra DeJonge (three blocks), and
Nina Rudnitsky (29 digs).
