Lexa Magnuson named men’s volleyball head coach

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – Davenport University has hired Lexa Magnuson as head coach of the men's volleyball program effective immediately. Magnuson brings collegiate coaching experience to the position, being the assistant coach for both men's and women's volleyball at Goshen College. She also has coaching experience at the high school level. In addition, she has head coaching experience with Northern Indiana Volleyball Academy.

"I want to thank Ryan McCosky and Ronda Varnesdeel for providing the opportunity to lead the men's volleyball program," stated Magnuson. "I am eager to continue to build on the foundation of success that Coach David Vander Meer started and I am excited to build relationships with the current players, recruits, and staff. I look forward to continuing my role in such a rapidly growing sport, in addition to joining the Grand Rapids community!"

Magnuson has a Bachelor of Arts in English Secondary Education from Goshen College. She also brings collegiate experience as a player. Magnuson spent four seasons at Goshen College as a middle hitter, where she tallied 727 career kills, 180 digs, and 285 total blocks.

"Lexa will be a great addition to our department. I am excited to see what she can do as a head coach. Her energy and passion for the role were evident early in the interview process. Having played and coached collegiately (Goshen College) I am confident she will be a great leader and continue to build off the success we have had," said Ryan McCosky, director of non-varsity sports and programming.

"Replacing a coach like Dave will be tough. In four years, he started the program from scratch and built a solid foundation. His team played championship quality volleyball for all four years. Dave is a true volleyball guy and we are grateful for all he has done for our program."
