A WELCOME HOME
Before the game even started, there a was a special moment as Linda and Eric Seymour, Connor's parents came out for a ceremonial puck drop. Little did they know Connor's brother, Griffin, had returned from his basic training with the Army, and surprised them in a joyous and emotional moment on the ice before the game.
UP BY A LITTLE
The game started similar to how the first period was on Friday night, as Davenport swarmed the Pride defense and were firing on all cylinders. Murray scored his 11
th of the season a few minutes into the contest, and Davenport looked for more. However, the Pride's Kyle Fritz made some masterful saves to try and keep the Panther offense at bay. The Panthers would break through again as Carroll was able to bang in a power play goal late in the period to put DU up by a score of 2-0.
FINDING THE GROOVE
Davenport started to fill the back of the net in the second period as they had on Friday. Rahilly scored his 14
th of the season to put DU up by three, followed by Blackburn's first of the season, and Majewski's first since October just over 90 seconds apart.
Davenport would get a major power play late in the period, and Seymour and Sandberg would help DU capitalize with their 12
th and eighth goals of the season, respectively, sending the Panthers into the third period with a seven-goal lead.
The final frame featured two shorthanded goals by the Panthers, one from Murray and the other from Hulsey. Sandberg scored his second of the game, and Demeter would score his fourth goal of the weekend in the closing minutes.
Cole Uzzell capped the game off with his fifth of the season, and Davenport would end 2019 on a high note, winning by a final score of 12-0.
WHO'S NEXT?
Following the turn of the New Year, the Panthers will bounce back against three tough opponents while taking part in a showcase down in Miami (OH). They will take on Florida Gulf Coast, Liberty and Miami University.
Their first opponents will be Florida Gulf Coast, currently sitting as the #2 team in the Southeast Region. The Panthers beat the Eagles in January 2019 in a similar showcase, and are 5-5 all-time against FGCU with a tie and overtime loss as well.
Puck drop for the meeting down in Oxford, Ohio is set for 9:10 p.m. at the Goggin Ice Center.
