Panthers set for showdown against #2 Ferris State

» Davenport is 3-0 this season marking the second straight season that the Panthers have opened the season with at least three straight wins. In addition, Davenport has won eight straight games in the month of September including five of those wins on the road.

» The running game has been very consistent this season and has been a factor in helping the team to a 3-0 record. The Panthers have exactly 40 rushes as a team in the first three games. DU has 438 rushing yards and four touchdowns. The offense has shown great balance with 549 passing yards and three touchdowns. 

» The Panther defense continues to post impressive numbers and last week against Lindenwood recorded a school-record eight sacks for minus-25 yards. The Panthers also posted 11 tackles for a loss of minus-41 yards. The defense has had double-digit tackles for loss in each of the first three games.

» Chris Ahmed enters this week without missing a kick this season. He is 4-for-4 in field goals and 7-for-7 in extra points. For his career, Ahmed is 11-for-15 in field goals and 29-for-32 in extra points.

» This week, the defensive national numbers once again are impressive. DU ranks eighth in third down defense (23.4%), fourth in rush defense (46.0 ypg), 12th in scoring defense (13.3 ppg), 11th in pass efficiency defense (88.9), first in team sacks (5 per game), first in tackles for loss (11.3 per game) and fourth in total defense (224.0 ypg).

» The Panthers put up 35 points in last week's win marking the first time in the last seven games they have eclipsed the 30-point mark. It is also the seventh time in program history to score 30-plus points in a game. The 25 points scored in the fourth quarter is also a new high for that quarter.

» Deondre Ford had his second multi-passing touchdown game as a Panther against Lindenwood. He threw for three scores in the final 30:36 of the game. He connected with Ulice Gillard on a 20-yarder late in the second quarter for his first touchdown pass of the season. Gillard also caught his first TD as a Panther. Ford connected on a 32-yarder with Marquian Johnson with 11:31 left in the fourth quarter and also 30 yards with Nate Couturier for the game-winning score with 3:36 to play. Ford completed 14 passes for 188 yards and also rushed for a career-high 77 yards on 14 carries. 

» The Panthers have been very efficient in the red zone this season. DU has scored all seven times inside the 20-yard line for a total of 37 points. They have four touchdowns and three field goals. On the flip side, the opponent is 7-of-9 with Lake Erie being intercepted and turning it over on downs on that game's final possession.

» Kye Black moved into a tie for the team lead with 19 tackles after a 12-tackle performance against Lindenwood. It was the most tackles he had in a game since setting the school record with 18 back on October 28, 2017 at Michigan Tech. He also had two tackles for loss and a QB hurry. Black is the all-time leader in DU history with 225 tackles, 36 tackles for loss and 13.5 sacks.

» Ferris State enters the matchup ranked second in NCAA Division II. The Bulldogs marched all the way to the national championship last season and was two point shy of their first title falling 49-47 to Valdosta State. Valdosta State currently occupies the top ranking in Division II this season. One of those wins was a 41-17 victory over the Panthers in Big Rapids on November 3, 2018. Jayru Campbell accounted for 145 yards and two scores on the ground and additionally 142 yards and two scores through the air. Blake Daniels completed a pair of second-half touchdown passes for the Panthers. He connected on a 68-yarder to Keion Powers late in the third and found Gourney Sloan on a 15-yarder with 36 seconds left in the contest. The Bulldogs gained 395 yards of total offense while Davenport racked up 319 total yards. Deion Powers led the defense with nine tackles. Kye Black recorded seven tackles.
