Davenport falls to 3-3 in GLIAC play after loss at Michigan Tech

HOUGHTON, Mich. – Davenport opened up their weekend road trip up north at Michigan Tech and fell in four sets. The Panthers had the set score tied 1-1 after winning the second set 25-22, but dropped the next two sets. The loss brings the Panthers to 3-3 in conference play and currently sit in third place in the GLIAC South division.

HOW IT HAPPENED
-SET SCORES: 24-26, 25-22, 22-25, 25-15
-The first set belonged to the Panthers all the way up until the bitter sweet end. Davenport Had a couple great runs to take a commanding lead. First, after trailing three points the Panthers scored seven out of eight points to take a 20-17 lead. During that stretch Hayley Kreiger and Ashley VanderHorst each had a kill and teamed up for a block assist. Davenport built up a 24-20 lead after kills by Jenn Kay Vander Meer and Jessica Marvin. The Huskies took over down the stretch, winning six unanswered points to take the first set away from the Panthers.
-Davenport took their revenge in the second set, evening up the score 1-1. Similar to the first set the Panthers trailed by three points and had a big run to take the lead. Davenport strung together five straight points to take a 19-17 advantage. The Huskies came back and tied the set 22-22. This time around the Panthers took care of business down the stretch, scoring the final three points of the set to win 25-22. The set-winning point belonged to Kreiger on a service ace.
-The Panthers opened the third set strong, building up a 11-7 lead early on. The Huskies rallied off six unanswered to retake the lead. With the set tied 19-19 the Huskies won six of the final nine points to take the set 25-22.
-Michigan Tech took control of the match in the third set. Vander Meer recorded a kill to make the score 15-12 in favor of the Huskies. Michigan Tech then scored four straight to go up 19-12. The Huskies again scored six of the remaining nine points to win the set and match.
