HAMMOND, Ind. – The Panthers took part in a high scoring doubleheader on Sunday at Purdue University-Northwest. The two teams combined for 30 runs in the two games. Davenport won the first game 8-5 and then lost the second 12-5.
Mallory Teunissen won her league high 14
th game of the season, striking out eight batters in the first game. The Panthers have split four out of their last five GLIAC doubleheaders, each of those four Davenport has won the first game and then lost the second.

Davenport continued their dominance in game one of GLIAC doubleheaders, where they hold a record of 5-1 so far this season. Teunissen didn't throw a shutout this time around, but struck out eight batters and her offense had her back. The Panthers recorded nine hits for eight runs in the game. Allen and Griffin combined to account for seven of the team's eight runs, scoring two and recording five RBI's. Davenport jumped out to a big four run lead in the top of the third. Alexis Koza from third. Next up was Allen, who crushed a double to right center scoring all three runners on base. The Pride had a big inning of their own in the bottom of the fourth, scoring four runs to cut DU's lead down to 6-4. Davenport scored one security goal in the sixth and the seventh to help Teunissen close out the game.

The Panthers were outscored in the second game of the doubleheader. Davenport is now 1-5 in the second game of GLIAC doubleheaders so far this season. The Pride had a big fourth inning, scoring six runs to increase their lead to 9-1. The Panthers scored four runs of their own in the top of the fifth inning. Koza singled up the middle, scoring Pauley, then Jewell doubled down the left field line to score Griffin and Flores. The final run of the inning came when
Lauren French singled through the right side, scoring Jewell. The Panthers were held scoreless in the sixth and the seventh innings.

Davenport has an extremely quick turnaround from the weekend as they travel to Allendale, Mich. on Monday, April 9 for a doubleheader against nationally-ranked Grand Valley State University. The first game of the doubleheader will start at 3:30 p.m.
