CALEDONIA, Mich. – Davenport started a three match home stand by taking on the Warriors of Wayne State University. The Warriors came into the match with a 6-2 record in conference play and performed that way. The Panthers were unable to earn one point during the match as Wayne State swept both the singles and doubles competitions.
In the doubles competitions
Steph Ritson and
Adeline Nelson teamed up in the first doubles spot. They had a tight match but ultimately fell 7-9.
Terin Everse and
Bridget Barrett competed in the second doubles slot and lost 3-8. Davenport defaulted the third doubles spot to the Warriors.
Ritson competed in the first singles spot for DU and put up the best fight. She lost the first set 4-6 and won the second 7-5 to force a tie breaking set. In the tiebreaker, Ritson lost 1-10. Nelson lost in the second doubles slot 3-6 and 3-6, while Everse dropped her singles match 1-6 and 2-6 in third singles. Barrett fell 1-6 and 1-6 in the fourth singles. In the final spot for DU Gossett lost 0-6 and 2-6. Davenport defaulted in the sixth singles spot.
The Panthers will host Ashland University tomorrow morning at 10:00 a.m.
