Sweet Sixteen in the WHAC for women's basketball

The Panthers are 16-0 in the conference after an 81-54 win over Northwestern Ohio

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - The Davenport women's basketball team moved to 22-2 overall and 16-0 in the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference with an 81-54 win over Northwestern Ohio. Davenport picked up their 23rd straight regular season WHAC victory and remain perfect all-time against UNOH at 15-0. The Panthers swept the season series against the Racers without too much stress. DU led for the entire contest after a jumper by Emily Severn 40 seconds into the game. The Panthers started the game with a 9-4 lead after a layup by Molly Babbs at the 6:18 mark. The lead grew to 16-6 with 1:55 left in the first quarter after a Severn triple. The Panthers led 20-9 at the end of the first quarter and did not commit a turnover while scoring eight points in the paint and six points off turnovers.

The Racers cut the deficit to 26-19 at 7:17 of the second quarter as Laken Johnson made a basket, but Davenport quickly increased their lead back to 34-19 after an 8-0 run with 2:43 left until halftime. The fast break led to layups by Chri Carter and Hannah Wilkerson who converted a three-point play during the run. The Panthers led 36-23 at the break shooting 13-of-36 from the floor while UNOH went 7-of-20 and committed 14 turnovers. Davenport gave up just four points in the paint and no second-chance points.

Six different players scored to start the third quarter for Davenport as they continued to lead 51-30 at the 4:02 mark after back-to-back fast break layups by Wilkerson. The lead increased to 59-33 with 2:22 left in the third after a Severn three-pointer but the Racers got things back to 61-42 on a Keundra Cox triple at the horn.

In the fourth quarter the lead was 20-plus for DU growing to as many as 29 late in the contest before the final score of 81-54. The Davenport bench scored all 20 points in the fourth quarter with 12 of those coming in the paint. UNOH (10-14, 8-8) finished with 26 turnovers which Davenport converted to 31 points. UNOH shot 35.4 percent for the game while DU was 30-of-69 for 43.5 percent including 6-of-11 behind the arc.

Danielle VanDyne went 6-of-6 behind the arc for the Racers and led all players with 18 points. Momo Neal played 23 minutes for Davenport with nine points and a season-high eight assists. Babbs scored 11 points and grabbed four rebounds. Severn scored 13 points connecting on 3-of-4 from deep while grabbing five rebounds and dishing out three assists. Wilkerson added 11 points and four steals off the bench in 12 minutes.
