GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Davenport University women's basketball team has announced the signings of three new players for the 2016-17 season. Megan Walter, Emily McCostlin, and Olivia Roe who all will enroll at DU as freshman this fall.
The three are key additions to the DU women's basketball program that won its 10
th consecutive WHAC Regular Season Championship and its seventh consecutive WHAC Tournament Championship in 2015-16 and will look to reload with this trio coming into the program.
Walter (Ovid, Mich.), a 5-11 guard/forward from Ovid-Elsie High School, garnered All-Conference honors as a three-year varsity letter-winner. She comes to DU as a part of the class of 2020. She is the daughter of Mike and Connie Walter and will study sports management during her time at the University.
McCostlin (Eaton Rapids, Mich.) and Roe (Portland, Mich.) will add to the DU back court depth when they enter the program this fall. McCostlin, a 5-6 guard, was a three-year varsity letter-winner at Eaton Rapids High School. She brings both leadership and a winning mentality to the Davenport program as a two-year captain, two-time First Team All-League guard as well as a two-time District Champion and a part of her team's 2014 Class B State Championship. She is a player that her high school coach Becky Sutton called "a relentless worker and learner." She is the daughter of Jennifer and Scott McCostlin and plans to study Medical Case Management during her time at DU.
Roe (Portland, Mich.), a 5-7 guard, is a versatile athlete that was a two-time All-Conference selection, a two-time BCAM All-State Honorable Mention, and the two-time Ionia County Player of the Year. She was an All-Area selection her junior season and an AP All-State Honorable Mention as senior at Portland High School. Roe doubled as an impact softball player during her high school career earning All-State, All-Conference, and the Ionia County Co-Player of the Year honors as a second baseman. She is the daughter of Tim and Heidi Roe and plans to study Biological Laboratory Sciences as a Davenport student-athlete.
