Schuba takes on leadership of Women's Basketball Program

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - Davenport University's Executive Director of Intercollegiate Athletics Paul Lowden announced today a shift of leadership for the Women's Basketball program. Current assistant coach Travis Schuba will take over as interim Head Coach upon the expiration of Rick Albro's current contract.

Prior to his appointment as lead assistant coach this past season for the Panthers, Schuba served as head boys basketball coach at Traverse City Central High School from 2017-20. In his playing days (2014-16), Schuba got the chance to travel the world as a player for the Washington Generals, who are the opponent for the Harlem Globetrotters. While a student-athlete at Madonna University, he was named a two-time Wolverine Hoosier Athletic Conference first team selection and also holds the career three-point record with 399 triples. He was also the inaugural NABC-NAIA Men's Basketball 3-Point Contest champion.

"I want to thank Rick for his commitment to our women's basketball program over the past four years," said Lowden. "Rick has invested himself for over 50 years in the game of basketball while sharing his passion for mentoring young men and women. Rick has represented our institution well and we are honored to be a part of his lengthy basketball career."

Albro was the fourth head coach in the history of the DU women's basketball program. He had a record of 26-77 and 16-62 in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference in four seasons at the helm. The Panthers made
the GLIAC Tournament twice under Albro in 2017-18 and 2020-21. DU won their first GLIAC Tournament game in the first round at Northern Michigan this season back on March 2nd. In 2020-21, the Panthers finished at 6-14 overall and 10th in the GLIAC with a 5-13 mark.
