ANN ARBOR, Mich. – The Davenport baseball team loaded up on Concordia pitching on Sunday afternoon to the tune of 8-3 and 19-0 at Cardinal Field to win three of four in the weekend series and remain one and a half games ahead of Madonna in the WHAC standings. The two teams will play a critical four-game series starting on Friday, April 29 at Davenport.
The Panthers recorded 12 hits and four stolen bases in game one. DU scored in each of the first three innings to lead 4-1.
Matt Priebe had a RBI single in the first as
Connor Seymour scored from the leadoff spot.
JP North had a RBI single in the second scoring
Brandon Larkin-Guilfoyle after he singled and took second on a wild pitch.
Travis Bolin had a RBI single in the third and stole second while taking third on a throwing error. Priebe then drove him home on a groundout to shortstop.
Davenport added to their lead with two runs in the seventh.
Brandon Cable had a sacrifice fly scoring
Jeremy Vasquez and Bolin doubled home Seymour. Concordia got a run in the bottom half of the seventh and then Davenport scored twice again in the ninth. North and Vasquez singled to start the inning as Seymour had a RBI single to plate North. Bolin had another RBI single to conclude the scoring for the Panthers.
Seymour finished 3-for-5 with three runs scored and five infield assists. Bolin went 3-for-5 with a run and three RBI. North went 2-for-3 with a run and RBI. Vasquez went 2-for-4 with a run scored. Cable and Wilson each had a stolen bases and Bolin swiped two bags.
Brandon White got the win (4-1) going seven innings while allowing two earned runs with two walks and nine strikeouts.
Corey Sessions and
Jonathan Cheshire each went one inning in relief. The Cardinals used seven pitchers as Jimmy McKane got the start and loss (2-1) lasting just two innings.
The second game saw Davenport scored their second-highest amount of runs in a game this season in the shutout.
Corbin Clouse continued his recent dominance running his scoreless inning streak to 13 innings in a five-inning outing. Clouse allowed just two hits with two walks and a career-high 12 strikeouts improving to 4-0.
Alex Schuiling and
Brady Kais each threw one inning in relief.
Mike Clevenger got the loss (1-3) giving up nine earned runs and three walks in 1.2 innings. DU scored in five of the seven innings including six runs in the second. Bolin went 4-for-4 with four runs and five RBI including a pair of home runs. He now has 15 home runs and 53 RBI this season while batting .437. Cable went 3-for-4 with three runs and a RBI. Priebe and
Brian Sobieski went yard in the contest as Sobieski finished 2-for-3 with two runs and three RBI.
Dre Celestijn went 4-for-5 with three RBI.
Nick Rangos and
Austin Petravicius each had a double. Larkin-Guilfoyle and North each had two RBI.
