DU Pitching Shuts Down UNOH in Sweep

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – DU took on Northwestern Ohio Wednesday afternoon in a home double header with the 24-11 Racers. UNOH came into the day leading the WHAC in batting average (.356) and in slugging percentage (.512) while DU came into the day leading the conference in ERA with a 1.75 mark. The DU pitching was up to the task as Emily Maves and Mallory Teunissen each shut the UNOH bats down and threw a complete game shutout as the Panthers went on for the sweep by a pair of 8-0 scores.

Maves (17-3) tossed her fifth shutout of the season and recorded seven strikeouts to take the win. She only allowed juat three hits and did not allow the Racers to record an extra base hit to lead the Panthers to their 30th win of 2016. The DU offense backed her up with eight runs on eight hits and capped their victory with a four-run fourth inning. Aby Brambila and Alyssa Eastman each highlighted the inning with an RBI double as the Panthers earned their 8-0 victory in five innings.

Brambila finished with a 1-for-2 game with an RBI. McKenzie Rowe recorded a 1-for-2 game with three runs scored and Carli SanMillan went 3-for-3 for the game.

Teunissen (13-4) then shut the Racers down in game two to lead the Panthers to a sweep. She would earn the win by recording her third shutout of the season while allowing just two hits and recording one strikeout. The DU offense stayed hot to help the Panthers take the sweep as they totaled eight runs on 10 hits. The Panthers capped their day with a five-run fifth inning that gave DU the 8-0 win. Alyssa Koziol started the inning with a double to right field that drove in Brambila and Sam Merren. Lindsay Tasma then followed with an RBI double. Lauren French and Sarah Schneidenbach sealed the win in five innings as they each knocked an RBI single.

Tasma went on to go 2-for-3 for the game with two RBI and two runs scored. Schneidenbach recorded a 2-for-2 game and Koziol recorded a 1-for-2 game with two RBI.
