DU Bounces Back with Sweep of Indiana Tech

FORT WAYNE, Ind. – DU bounced back Tuesday from their first WHAC loss of 2016 with a convincing sweep of Indiana Tech. The Panthers saw their pitching hold the Warriors to a combined five hits over the doubleheader while their offense pushed 21 runs across the plate to take their series 12-1 and 9-1. The two victories advanced the overall record for DU to 29-8 with a 9-1 mark in the WHAC.

Junior pitcher Emily Maves (16-3) dominated game one from the circle as she totaled 14 strikeouts in six innings pitched to take the decision. The offense backed her up with nine runs scored on 13 hits led by a 3-for-4, five RBI performance from Lauren French. The Panthers scored a pair of runs in the fourth inning and broke the game wide open with six runs over their final two at bats.French hit a two-RBI single in the sixth that scored Alyssa Eastman and Aby Brambila to help DU extend its lead to 8-1. Brambila and Eastman each then recorded RBI singles in the seventh and Erica Yancey recorded her first career RBI on a sacrifice fly that scored Eastman.

Eastman finished 2-for-5 with two RBI and three runs scored. Brambila totaled a 4-for-5 game with two RBI and three runs scored while Carli SanMillan finished with a 2-for-5 game. Senior pitcher Kyleigh Linebaugh came in to relieve Maves in the seventh inning. She recorded a scoreless final inning for DU and recorded one strikeout. 

Game two then saw freshman pitcher Mallory Teunissen (12-4) toss the complete game while allowing just one hit and recording five strikeouts to take the decision. The offense continued to stay hot led by McKenzie Rowe as she went 4-for-4 from the leadoff spot with two RBI and two runs scored.

The Panthers earned the victory in five innings with two runs in the first inning and capped their offensive performance with a three-run fifth. Brambila and Alyssa Koziol each recorded an RBI double in the first to ignite the offense. The Panthers extended their lead to 6-1 heading into the fifth before Nicole Vitale knocked her fourth home run of the season to fuel the final at bat for DU.

Nine Panthers recorded a hit in the game two victory, including four players who recorded multi-hit games. Sarah Schneidenbach accompanied Rowe with a perfect performance at the plate as she went 2-for-2 with two runs scored. Koziol and Lindsay Tasma each recorded 2-for-4 games at the plate.
