Panthers Use Big Second Half Run to Take Out UNOH

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - The Panthers used a 20-0 run in the second half Saturday afternoon to pull away from the University of Northwestern Ohio Racers. DU would extend its lead to as many as 29 points as they advanced their overall record to 18-5 with a 14-2 mark in the WHAC following their 87-60 victory.

DU and the Racers battled early as they fought to a 23-20 score late in the first quarter. The Panthers then put together a 9-1 run over the next 2:35 to open up an 11-point lead in the second quarter and leave the Racers fighting from behind.

UNOH battled to stay in the game after the Panthers carried a 45-38 lead to the break. The Racers managed to cut the DU lead to five points, 53-48, with 5:52 left in the third quarter, but this is when DU would catch fire. The Panthers would begin a 20-0 run that carried their lead to 73-48 and held the Racers scoreless over an eight minute stretch. Molly Babbs and Mallory Sewell helped fuel this run as they each totaled eight points in the second half. Lauren Brower added eight second half points of her own and Alex Law tallied six as the Panthers pulled away from UNOH for good.

The Panthers would go on to take out the Racers by 27 points following a defensive effort that saw DU force 17 turnovers and record 11 steals. Babbs and Sewell led DU inside as the Panthers outscored UNOH 44-26 in the paint behind the pair that combined for 26 points. Babbs and Sewell also helped the Panthers win the game on the glass as Babbs recorded nine rebounds and Sewell totaled seven to help DU outrebound UNOH 52-35.

DU would hit nine three-point shots as a team led by Law (4-for-10) and Brower (2-for-7) who combined for six. Law totaled 12 points for the game while Brower scored 13 as a part of a balanced Panther offense that saw four players reach double figures in scoring.
