Panthers Bounce Back with 127-52 Win over Marygrove

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - Freshman forward Michaela Faber led the DU attack with a career-high 23 points on a perfect 11-for-11 performance from the field as the Panthers cruised to 15-4, 11-1 after a 127-52 victory.

The Panthers bounced back after their first conference loss of the season with a dominating win over the Mustangs Saturday afternoon. DU took an 11-0 run early in the first quarter as they built a 34-13 lead heading into the second quarter. Kendra Cook propelled the Panther offense early as she tallied 10 points and six rebounds in the first half. Mallory Sewell would add to the relentless offense from the Panthers as she recorded nine points in the first half. The second quarter saw the Panthers add to its lead with a 13-0 run as Davenport extended its advantage to 62-21 at the break.

Faber would then lead the charge in the second half with a team-high 12 points on 6-for-6 shooting from the field. The Panthers went on to shoot 69.0% from the field (29-42) as Cook (3-for-3) and Kelsey Crockett (4-for-4) each went perfect from the floor in the second half.

The Panthers responded with the convincing win they needed, "It was a great team effort today. The stat I am most proud of is the 43 assists on our 53 baskets. Our kids really worked hard to make the extra pass. In particular I thought that Emily Severn and Michaela Faber really gave us great energy off of the bench today", commented Head Coach Robyn Scherr-Wells.

DU dominated the game from start to finish in the paint as they recorded 80 points to just 16 from the Mustangs. The Panthers controlled the game on the glass with 71 rebounds, led by Molly Babbs who totaled a career-high 12 rebounds, and turned their 33 offensive rebounds into 28 points. Crockett totaled a career-high 11 points for the game while Emily Severn had an all-around day of 12 points, six rebounds, and a career-high eight assists.

Coach Scherr-Wells also recorded her 100th career victory with today's result. "It's special hitting the 100 wins mark because of all of the players it represents. I would not have a chance to celebrate this achievement if it weren't for all of the talented players I have had the honor to coach over the last six seasons. When I think of that number, I think of each one of their faces. I am blessed to coach these women for a living. I am also thankful that I have had the privilege to coach each one of these 100 wins with my father. It's a nice day to reflect on all of the people past and present that have helped me achieve this milestone. I look forward to many more wins with our players here at Davenport", said Scherr-Wells.
