No. 15 Women’s Tennis Takes down Crosstown Rival Aquinas

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – After dropping their first WHAC contest of the season last weekend, the Davenport women's tennis team was able to get back on the winning track as they face crosstown rival Aquinas. The Panthers were able to beat the Saints, 7-2, to move to 3-1 in the WHAC. The Lady Panthers will face their second crosstown rival in as many day as they host Cornerstone at MVP Crahen on Wednesday evening at 5 p.m.
 
Aquinas and Davenport started their match playing singles, and Davenport was able to 4-2 lead after singles as the Panthers won three of their four matches in three sets. Angelica Wood was able to win her match in straight sets, 6-4, 6-0. The win in singles by Woods was her 100th career victory in a Panther uniform.
 
In doubles, the Lady Panthers were able to carry over their momentum from singles after winning the last three singles matches to take all three doubles. Aquinas continued to battle with Davenport as they forced the final two doubles matches to tiebreakers, but the Panthers were able to escape in both matches to win the overall match, 7-2, over the Saints.
 
Davenport will face their second WHAC crosstown rival in as many days as they host Cornerstone at MVP Crahen on Wednesday evening at 5 p.m.
