Bowling Green, Ohio. – The eighth-ranked men's rugby team was back in action for the fourth weekend in a row as they traveled to Bowling Green to take on the Falcons. Six different Panthers recorded tries, including two from senior
Gabe Sochanek. Davenport scored 37 unanswered points before allowing Bowling Green to go on a 26-0 run of their own, but managed to hold on for a 37-26 victory.
The game started out with hard fought back and forth play between the Panthers and the Falcons, before Sochanek put Davenport on the board with his first of two tries.
Roman Mares and
Michael Houston also recorded tries in the first half, with Houston's coming after a strip on a Bowling Green wing after a DU clearance kick.
Willy Urena,
Vershawn Burke, and
Delton Clay all scored tries for the Panthers in the second half, while
Knute O'Donnell was 1-7 in conversion attempts on the day.
Davenport now snaps a two game losing skid and gets back above .500 as they improve to 3-2 on the season.
The Panthers have almost a three-week break before returning to the Turf Field on October 10, for their much anticipated homecoming matchup against Arkansas State University. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m., which is right after the women's rugby match.
