Women’s Soccer Gets Rematches with Two Top 10 Teams This Weekend

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – Davenport's seventh-ranked women's soccer team begins perhaps the toughest part of its schedule this week. The season-most five-match road trip starts with a drive to Chicago to play Saint Xavier (Ill.) Tuesday night before heading south to Columbia, Ky., to wrap up the non-conference schedule against two NAIA Top 10 teams. The Panthers two opponents this weekend are rematches from last year starting with No. 8 Cumberland (Tenn.) Friday and No. 3 Lindsey Wilson Saturday.

at Saint Xavier (Ill.)
Date: Tuesday, Sept. 16
Kickoff: 6 p.m. EDT
Location: Chicago, Ill. (Bruce R. Deaton Memorial Field)

The Cougars are still in search of their first win of the season after four attempts. They tied Freed-Hardeman and St. Catherine but have lost to No. 20 Ashford and Saint Francis (Ill.). Goals have been hard to produce for the Cougars as six student-athletes have found the back of the net once.

vs. No. 8 Cumberland (Tenn.)
Date: Friday, Sept. 19
Kickoff: 6 p.m. EDT
Location: Columbia, Ky. (Walter S. Reuling Stadium)
Internet Coverage: TBD

The Bulldogs are coming off a 1-0 win over No. 17 Brenau last Saturday. Shauna Gilpin has proved to opponents she is dangerous, having scored five goals and notched one assist. Taylor Nay has also proved to be a scoring threat as well as a setup player, tallying three goals and two assists. Lindsay Kitson has logged in every minute between the posts this season, allowing only four goals in 470 minutes.

at No. 3 Lindsey Wilson (Ky.)
Date: Saturday, Sept. 20
Kickoff: 8 p.m. EDT
Location: Columbia, Ky. (Walter S. Reuling Stadium)

Facing arguably the toughest schedule in the NAIA, the Blue Raiders have so far picked up wins over No. 14 Spring Arbor and No. 16 Olivet Nazarene but had suffered a 2-0 loss to second-ranked and last year's national runner-up Westmont (Calif.) at home. Five opponents scheduled the rest of the season, including Davenport, are ranked within the NAIA Top 25. Ana Vig has scored four of the Blue Raiders seven goals this season.
