Heading into the 2019-20 athletic season, Rick Berkey will be broadcasting his fourth season as the play-by-play announcer for DU Football and his eighth as the voice of the DU Men’s Basketball team on the Davenport Athletics Network.
Berkey has been broadcasting on the radio, television and Internet for over 30 years, having worked for WCUZ-AM, WOOD Radio, WXMI Television, WMAX-AM and ESPN 96.1. Along with his duties at Davenport, Berkey has called the action for the West Michigan Whitecaps, Grand Rapids Hoops, Grand Rapids Rampage, Grand Valley State, Michigan State and countless high school games.
In addition to his broadcast duties, Berkey is the owner of SportsPlay Live, Inc which produces local sports broadcasts.
A graduate of Western Michigan with a degree in communications, Berkey and his wife, Jane, reside in Comstock Park. Together they have a daughter, Lindsey, a son, Jacob, and two grandchildren.
