Boyd enters his seventh season as the head coach of the Davenport wrestling program and is the only head coach in program history. He has ushered in a new era as the University has transitioned from NAIA to NCAA Division II. The Panthers were able to compete in the NCAA Super Region 3 for the first time as a full member in 2019-20. Sam Greco finished fifth at 174 pounds and River Fox finished sixth at 285 pounds. The Panthers had seven duals with three of those coming against Division II schools ranked in the top 13 nationally.
In the 2018-19 season, Davenport competed in six duals with four of those coming against Division II opponents ranked nationally. The team did pick up a 30-15 win over Lourdes on senior night. In 2017-18, Davenport picked up three dual wins in eight tries with wins over Hannibal-LaGrange, Alma, and Lourdes.
Boyd guided the program to an increase in dual match wins over the first three years. The team won seven dual matchups during the 2016-17 season. The program hosted the NAIA Regionals during that season and Connor Hughes and David Tooley both qualified for nationals.
In the inaugural season of the wrestling program, he coached National Champions in Zack Yate and Glenn Geurink. In the second season, DU went 3-5 in dual matches with wins over Grand Valley State, Calumet College of St. Joseph and University of the Ozarks. Dillon Francisco qualified for the NAIA Nationals and narrowly missed the quarterfinals in the 184-pound class.
