Rob Harris is entering his eighth season as the head coach for the women's lacrosse program at Davenport after the 2020 campaign was cut short due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
In 2019, Harris led his team to the GLIAC Tournament with a conference record of 5-6. The Panthers finished fifth out of the nine teams in the GLIAC. Harris coached five All-GLIAC award winners, including First-Team All-GLIAC honoree, Taylor Ries.
In 2018, the team competed in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) for the first time. The Panthers won their first ever GLIAC game against Northern Michigan by a score of 17-11 on March 31. Harris coached two Second-Team All-GLIAC members in Ryann Deuel and Maeve Sweeney.
In 2017, Harris guided the Panthers to an overall record of 15-3 including a 13-1 mark in the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC). They finished as co-WHAC Regular Season Champions and then advanced to the NAIA Invitational semifinals.
In 2016, Harris led the Panthers to a 17-3 record including a 9-1 mark in the WHAC. They shared the regular season championship with Indiana Tech and eventually went on to win the NWLL National Championship and NAIA Invitational to finish the season with six-straight wins.
In 2015, Harris led the team to a NWLL National Championship runner-up finish along with the program's second-straight WHAC Regular Season and Tournament titles with a 16-4 record and 9-1 conference mark.
In his first season at the helm of the program, Harris led the team to regular season and tournament titles in the WHAC while finishing with an overall record of 16-4. Harris, who earned both WHAC and NWLL Coach of the Year honors, coached six different players to national and conference accolades.
Harris brought nearly five years of experience coaching men’s and women’s lacrosse at both the high school and collegiate levels to Davenport. Before moving back north to Grand Rapids, he served as an assistant coach for the NCAA Division II Florida Southern women’s lacrosse team. During his brief stint in Lakeland, the Moccasins were ranked as high as 10
th in the final Intercollegiate Women’s Lacrosse Coaches Association Top 15 Poll. Among his duties were budget balancing, providing scouting reports on opponents and running practices.
Before joining the Mocs, Harris was the head recruiting and defensive coordinator for Adams State University in Alamosa, Colo. In addition, he also coordinated the summer camps for the program. Harris also holds a master’s degree in human performance and physical education from Adams State.
Harris earned a Bachelor's of Science degree in criminal justice at Grand Valley State in 2008. He began his coaching career with East Grand Rapids High’s boys’ varsity and junior varsity teams where he steered the program to a state championship appearance in 2011. He was also an assistant coach and director of lacrosse operations for the Lakers from 2009-11. During his stint with GVSU, the Lakers made back-to-back National Championship Tournament appearances in 2010 and 2011.
